Akmerkez is located in an earthquake zone and part of the project was to review the structure for the coming changes.

'Confusion' foodcourt, Akmerkez
[Istanbul, Turkey]

Refitting of the existing food court in Istanbul's most well known shopping mall Akmerkez. The roof was included to gain additional leasable space. The extension from 3,500 to 7,000 sq.m. gain a significant raise in lease income for the mall owners and a wider variety for the visitors.

The existing foodcourt is a mix of restaurant from around the world with different flavors – you have all the ingredients of 'fusion-food' mixing the extraordinary. As the interior floor layout got moved around it was clear that this foodcourt therefor should be named 'Confusion'. The name and interior design Claus came up with while working at Concept I being the lead designer on this project.
